A marriage is arranged between two families and the film takes place almost entirely inside the ceremonies around it: the engagement, the mehndi, the wedding, the wait for a child. Prem and Nisha meet at their elder siblings' wedding and every step between them advances through song. Sooraj Barjatya built it by minimising conflict and foregrounding ritual, with fourteen songs and a running time near three and a half hours. To fight piracy, Rajshri first released it in a single theatre per city, with the prints collected from the hall every night, taken to the office and returned in the morning. It ran 125 weeks at the Liberty in Mumbai and became the first Indian film to pass a hundred crore. Salman Khan and Madhuri Dixit lead.
