What I Am Evidence Is About
The documentary by Trish Adlesic and Geeta Gandbhir is about rape kits left untested for years in police storage across the United States. One of its starting points is the discovery by Kym Worthy, the prosecutor in Wayne County, of more than eleven thousand untested kits in an abandoned warehouse. The film works through how the system operates rather than through the detail of individual cases: the gap between a kit being taken and being examined, the institutional habits that decide which report gets treated seriously, and the people left waiting. The women named in it tell their own stories themselves. Mariska Hargitay is among the producers. It won an Emmy.
