What I Am Thor Is About
Jon Mikl Thor was a bodybuilding rock star of the seventies and eighties who bent steel and smashed bricks on stage; his band Thor was out there at the same time as Metallica and Kiss and never came close to where they got. After a short film career and a few cult B pictures, he disappeared entirely. The documentary follows a man who, ten years into retirement, has never managed to settle into an ordinary life, and his attempt to come back: touring again after years away, trying to be what he was on stage, in an attempt that nearly kills him. Ryan Wise’s film does not laugh at him; it records the funny and the sad sides of refusing to stop at the same time. It premiered at Slamdance in 2015.
