If I Had a Gun

Vlado is a boy living in a small village. He is a clever boy. His daily life feels dull to him. So he builds a world of fantasy for himself. Those fantasies carry him outside the village. But something else is happening outside. The Nazi occupation reaches into the lives of the townsfolk. As the occupation closes in the pressure grows. Vlado’s fantasies and reality begin to run into each other. The account carries those two layers together. The film was adapted from a novel. The work is counted within the Czech new wave. Marián Bernát and Jozef Gráf take the leads, with Daniel Lapuník and Emília Došeková also in the cast, in Štefan Uher’s Czechoslovak film of 1971.
