What In Search of the Castaways Is About
The two children of Captain Grant follow a message in a bottle that points to where their father's ship went down. Together with Professor Paganel and a shipowner's son they set off on a search that runs from South America to Australia and on to New Zealand. It is a Disney adventure adapted from Jules Verne's novel of 1867, and it moves the journey along by stacking one disaster on another: earthquake, flood, avalanche, condor, volcano. The sets and effects are of their time, but the energy holds. Maurice Chevalier plays the professor and sings.
