Inbetween Worlds

Jesper is a soldier in the German army going out to Afghanistan on a new tour. He and his unit are assigned to protect a remote village from the Taliban. With him is a young Afghan interpreter, Tarik, whose job is to carry the communication between the soldiers and the villagers. A friendship forms between the two men, and the fact that Tarik is doing this work is a direct danger to him, which everybody knows. Feo Aladag wrote, produced and directed it. It is not a military action film; it is one in which both sides are made to reckon with their own values and with the reasons they are there. It played in competition at the Berlinale in 2014.
