What Irupatham Noottandu Is About
The investigative reporter Ashwathy tries to expose the link between politics and crime. In doing so she causes a break between Sagar, a smuggler, and his accomplice Sekharankutty, the chief minister’s son. The film gives journalism not as heroism but as touching a chain in which, at the point touched, everyone is tied to everyone else. The account works with the action mould of Malayalam cinema of 1987 and draws its tension from who is protecting whom. The position of the woman reporter is under threat throughout the story. The scenes of violence follow the rules of the genre. Mohanlal and Suresh Gopi appear in K. Madhu’s hundred and fifty minute Malayalam film, completed in 1987.
