Island of the Hungry Ghosts

The documentary is set on Christmas Island. The island belongs to Australia. A great migration takes place there every year. Some forty million land crabs come down from the jungle to the sea. Along the way people open a path for them. Inside the same jungle there is a facility. The facility is a high security detention centre. People who have sought asylum are held inside. How long they will stay is not known. The documentary sets the two movements side by side. On one side the crabs passing freely. On the other people held without end. Gabrielle Brady directed the ninety eight minute documentary, in which Poh Lin Lee appears. The Australian, German and British coproduction was finished in 2019.
