What It Happened in Brooklyn Is About
Four years in the army have left Danny thinking about nothing but Brooklyn and how good it is, and then he gets back and finds it is not quite that. He moves in with Nick, the janitor at his old high school, gets work singing in a music shop, and meets Anne, a teacher who dreams of singing opera, and Leo, a gifted pianist. When Jamie arrives from England, Danny sets about showing him Brooklyn and getting him to write modern swing. Richard Whorf directed the MGM musical, with songs by Sammy Cahn and Jule Styne; Time After Time came out of it and stayed in the jazz repertoire. It was Sinatra’s third film for MGM.
