What Champagne for Caesar Is About
Richard Whorf's 1950 comedy follows Beauregard Bottomley, a genius who cannot find work. He goes for an interview at a soap company and the owner, Burnbridge Waters, turns him down rudely. The revenge plan is this: get onto the television quiz show his company sponsors and keep winning until the man is bankrupt. As Bottomley answers everything correctly he becomes a national sensation, and Waters, out of options, sends someone in to find his weak spot. Ronald Colman and Vincent Price face off; an early satire on the quiz-show mania at the start of the television age.
