It's Not You, It's Me

Javier is a surgeon in his thirties who works as a DJ in his spare time. He and his girlfriend María decide to marry and move to the United States. The plan is set: María goes first, Javier will settle things in Buenos Aires and follow. On the way to the airport his phone rings. María tells him not to come; she has met someone there. Javier has sold his flat, left his job and packed his belongings. Juan Taratuto tells a break-up as the reverse of romantic comedy: there is no effort to win her back, only a man with nothing left having to build his life again. The humour is dry and comes from the character's helplessness. Diego Peretti plays Javier and Soledad Villamil plays his neighbour. The film drew a large audience in Argentina. Who it's for: Viewers who like Argentine comedy, dry humour, and stories set after a break-up. Who it's not for: The pace is slow and the plot is thin. The character's self-pity may tire some viewers.
