Jaffa

In Jaffa, the mixed seaside city next to Tel Aviv, Arabs and Jews live side by side, and the garage Reuven runs in the middle of town sits right on top of that mixture. His daughter Mali, his son Meir and Toufik, a young Palestinian whose father has worked there for years, all share the same yard. Nobody knows that Mali and Toufik have been together for a long time, and when the two of them quietly begin preparing to marry the cover wears thin and the tension between Meir and Toufik climbs fast. Keren Yedaya’s hundred and six minute film traces exactly where a family catastrophe crosses the line between two communities. Dana Ivgy, Moni Moshonov and Ronit Elkabetz star, and the French, German and Israeli co-production had a special screening at Cannes in 2009.
