Jasper Jones

Jasper Jones, directed by Rachel Perkins, was adapted from Craig Silvey's award winning 2009 novel by Silvey himself with Shaun Grant, set in a racially divided, isolated Australian town where a girl goes missing. The cast includes Levi Miller, Angourie Rice, and Aaron L. McGrath, with Toni Collette as Charlie's mother Ruth and Hugo Weaving as Mad Jack Lionel. Made on a budget of around 5.5 million Australian dollars, running 105 minutes, it opened in Australia on March 2, 2017. Who it's for: anyone drawn to an award winning novel adaptation that confronts racism and a murder mystery from inside a small Australian town. Who it's not for: viewers wanting a light, low tension coming of age story, since the film confronts racial tension and violence directly.
