Jagdishwar Mishra, a struggling lawyer in Meerut, reopens the case of a wealthy young man who drove over people sleeping on a pavement and was acquitted, purely to make a name for himself. His motive is visibility rather than justice, and as the case grows he ends up underneath the thing he started. Subhash Kapoor drew on a real hit and run case in India. Arshad Warsi plays Jolly, Boman Irani the expensive advocate opposite him and Saurabh Shukla the judge; Shukla won a national award for it and the character became the spine of the series. The film's best quality is refusing to take the courtroom seriously while taking the system seriously. Who it is for: viewers who like courtroom comedy and Indian films that argue through humour. Who it is not for: anyone expecting plausible legal procedure.
