What Phas Gaye Re Obama Is About
Om is an Indian living in America who loses everything in the 2008 crash and comes back to sell the family land in India to clear his debts. In the home town, though, anyone arriving from America is by definition rich. A gang kidnaps him and demands a ransom, and once they work out there is no money they cannot get rid of him. Om is passed from gang to gang, each of them still hoping to get something out of him. Subhash Kapoor's film makes fun of the crash, of provincial gangsterism and of the American dream at the same time. Small budget, fast, and carried by its dialogue. Rajat Kapoor leads.
