What Jungle Cat Is About
The camera goes into the Amazon and follows a family of jaguars: mating, hunting, and encounters with a caiman, a peccary, a pirarucu and an anaconda. Written and directed by James Algar and released on 10 August 1960, it was the seventh and last feature in Walt Disney's True-Life Adventures, the series usually credited with establishing the shape of the nature documentary. Winston Hibler narrates. The method used throughout the series is here as well: the animals are given names and characters, and nature is arranged into drama. That approach looks questionable now, but these are the films that put wildlife on cinema screens in front of a mass audience.
