The Legend of Lobo

The film follows the life of a wolf, Lobo, from cub to leader of the pack. As his quarrel with the cattlemen deepens the price on his head rises, and eventually an expert wolf hunter comes after him; when the two meet, what the hunter is left with is respect. The most striking thing about this Disney production is that it has no dialogue at all: it runs on narration by Rex Allen and a story-song written by the Sherman brothers and sung by the Sons of the Pioneers. James Algar and Jack Couffer directed, with a score by Oliver Wallace. The source is the first story in Ernest Thompson Seton’s 1898 collection Wild Animals I Have Known. It was shot in Sedona, Arizona, and released on 7 November 1962. The record’s summary is straight promotional copy.
