What Jurassic Punk Is About
The documentary is about Steve Williams, one of the pioneers of computer animation. Working at Industrial Light and Magic in the late eighties and early nineties, Williams ran his own experiments at a time when nobody believed digital creatures could look real; in 1993 the dinosaurs of Jurassic Park changed the direction of cinema. But not getting on with authority, the fights, and what he himself calls a habit of defying everything left him short of the place he had earned. The film covers both that turning point and its cost, setting Williams’s own account beside those of former colleagues. Scott Leberecht’s ninety minute American documentary was completed in 2022.
