Kanche

The film starts in an Indian village and continues in the Europe of the Second World War, following the enmity between two men. What the single sentence in the record never says is the cause of that enmity: caste and social standing. Two people who could not accept each other in the village find themselves years later in the same uniform at the front, and the question the film puts is what difference there is between the line a man draws at home and the line the enemy draws in war. The title says as much: kanche means fence in Telugu. Krish Jagarlamudi wrote and directed, with Varun Tej and Pragya Jaiswal in the leads. It won the National Film Award for best feature film in Telugu and the Nandi Award for best film on national integration. Made for eighteen crore, it took twenty.
