Katsuta is a young yakuza. He tries to hold to the unwritten code of the organisation. But nobody around him believes in it. Not even his own boss believes in it. There is a man called Diamond Fuyu. Fuyu carries no such concern. He lets a man named Tetsu deceive a girl he has taken a liking to. The girl is called Hanako and is still at school. She is forced into working off a debt. Meanwhile a conflict breaks out between the gangs. The Izu family, to which Katsuta belongs, loses its last gambling den. Katsuta decides to settle the account. The road leads him to a former lover. She is a card trickster. She is also Fuyu’s sister. She is now married to Okaru-Hachi, who cheats with mirrors. Akira Kobayashi and Chieko Matsubara take the leads in Seijun Suzuki’s Japanese film of 1963.
