Black Night

Ishak is a travelling musician who came out of a small mountain town. A lynching he took part in seven years earlier will not let go of him when he returns to say goodbye to his dying mother. Waiting there are the five other men who did it, his childhood friends, along with the townspeople and the officials who protect them. The bigger the crime, the stronger the silence, because everyone has blood on their hands. Written by Özcan Alper with Murat Uyurkulak and directed by Alper, the film is about lynch culture and about what a community agrees to remember. It took best film and best screenplay at the 59th Antalya Golden Orange and best director at the Bosphorus festival, and opened in April 2023.
