Uğur İnan's 1983 comedy takes its inspiration from a story by Aziz Nesin. Kamil carries no weight at home or at work; he does whatever his wife tells him, cannot pay the rent to his landlord and is a figure of mockery to everyone around him. A misunderstanding at a police station changes everything: Kamil is taken for a wanted killer, and the neighbourhood suddenly becomes wary of him. From there the film builds a double comedy, with Kamil gaining confidence as he keeps up the role of the man to be feared while being crushed under the lie. It belongs to the best known period of Kemal Sunal's work and sets his downtrodden little man against a frightening identity for once. The screenplay is by Osman F. Seden. Who it's for: viewers who like Yeşilçam comedy and the films of Kemal Sunal. Who it's not for: anyone wanting to weigh the era's humour about men and women by current standards; some of the jokes have aged.
