Jhonattan Ardila What King Dave Is About
Dave, a young man who has declared himself king, goes after a stranger who came on to his girlfriend at a club and decides to settle the account himself. What starts that night turns into violence, broken friendships and a momentum he cannot stop; each step forces the next one. Adapted from Alexandre Goyette’s own stage play, the film runs through a narrator who speaks straight to the camera and is built as one unbroken take. It was attempted five times over five nights, and the fifth is the one in the film. Goyette takes the lead in Daniel Grou’s ninety nine minute Quebec film, completed in 2016.
