The King of the Belgians is on a state visit to Istanbul when his country splits: Wallonia declares independence. He has to get home immediately, and a solar storm shuts down the airspace and the phone network. No planes, no calls. With the help of a British documentary maker and a troupe of Bulgarian folk singers, the king and his small entourage cross the border in disguise. Peter Brosens and Jessica Woodworth co-directed a film that turns into a journey right across the Balkans, along which the king meets both the world and himself. It is shot as a fake documentary and premiered in the Horizons section at Venice in 2016.
