In the middle of the Puerta del Sol in Madrid there is a stone; it counts as the zero point for every road in Spain. On a hot August afternoon fourteen people arrange to meet somebody there. Then almost all of them meet the wrong person. A rich housewife, a man taken for a gigolo, a clerk determined to lose his virginity, a prostitute, a dancer and a barman all fall into the same confusion. Yolanda García Serrano and Juan Luis Iborra wrote and directed the film together, and it belongs to the late-nineties strand of Spanish comedy: fast, crowded and relaxed about sex. The pattern of finding the wrong person turns, through repetition, into a structure. Gay and straight stories carry equal weight here; neither is the other's punchline. Concha Velasco is in the cast. The film was named best film at the Turin Film Festival.
