Kodachrome

A man about to lose his job at a record label learns that the father he has not spoken to for years is dying. The father is a well-known photographer with four undeveloped rolls of film. The last laboratory able to process that stock is about to close, and it is in Kansas. The film does not make the father likeable on the way; he is selfish, hard, and does not apologise. The narrative does not require a reconciliation and leaves open what the son will accept. Mark Raso directed, with Ed Harris, Jason Sudeikis and Elizabeth Olsen. It was inspired by a newspaper piece; the last laboratory processing Kodachrome closed in 2010. Who it's for: those who like father and son road films and analogue photography. Who it's not for: viewers wanting surprises; the film follows a familiar path.
