What Kopps Is About

The police station in a small Swedish town is to be closed, because no crime worth recording has been committed there in years. To keep their jobs the four officers start producing crime themselves: petty thefts, vandalism, unease. Once the town is frightened the budget comes back, and the thing gets out of hand. Josef Fares wrote it from his own experience of small towns and builds the comedy on the officers' incompetence. At a certain point it goes somewhere genuinely dangerous and the tone hardens. The director's brother Fares Fares is in the cast. It was a large hit in Sweden and was submitted as the country's Oscar entry. Who it is for: viewers who like Nordic comedy and small-town stories. Who it is not for: anyone looking for delicate humour.
