KSI: In Real Life

Wes Pollitt's 2023 documentary follows JJ Olatunji, who became famous through the internet, across a year. Video making, boxing matches, music and the companies he has started all advance on the same calendar. The subject is the cost of that pace. After a break-up Olatunji begins questioning his priorities; his relations with his family, and particularly the rift with his brother, take wide space in the narrative. The access is broad and the recording close, but because the production came largely from inside his own team the distance is narrow. The working conditions of internet fame and the pressure of an audience are addressed without sharp criticism. Who it's for: those who follow internet culture and celebrity portraits. Who it's not for: viewers expecting an independent examination; the documentary follows its subject's own account.
