What Kumki Is About
A mahout and the elephant he has trained are called to a village on the edge of the forest. The village’s problem is a wild elephant destroying fields and houses, and the remedy is supposed to be a trained animal, a kumki, brought in to drive the wild one back into the trees. Prabhu Solomon tells this through a love story and through a real occupation at the same time. Vikram Prabhu is making his first film and prepared for it at an elephant training camp in Kerala. Shooting took eighty working days across Karnataka and Kerala, and the film opened in December 2012 to become one of the year’s biggest hits.
