The Frogs

At first light Halil is murdered, and his wife Elmas cries for justice; but there is no investigation. Elmas is widowed young and has to keep going with her small son. By day she works in the rice paddies and at night she catches frogs with the other villagers; she has debts to pay to the bank and to the cooperative. The young men of the village will not leave her alone. She falls for Ali, just out of prison, but his mother is against the marriage. The film is about how defenceless a widowed woman is left in the countryside. Hulya Kocyigit plays the lead in Serif Goren’s ninety three minute film, completed in 1985.
