Lagerfeld Confidential

The documentary follows the daily life of the fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld. For a long time he had allowed no book to be written about him and had not shared his recollections; this film was presented as the first opening of that closed door. The director filmed over three years and gathered hundreds of hours of footage. The portrait that comes out is not an orderly life story; work in the studio, journeys, conversations and silences stand together. The film is itself an attempt at closeness, and it does not hide the limits of that closeness. The director does not keep himself outside the frame while asking his questions; part of the film is about that relation itself. Rodolphe Marconi’s eighty nine minute French documentary was completed in 2007.
