Last Letter

When Yuan Zhinan dies she leaves behind a letter and an invitation to a school reunion. Attending in her late sister’s place, Zhihua runs into Yin Chuan, the boy she had a crush on years earlier. As old memories open up, letters begin travelling between different times and different contexts, and Zhihua slowly works out the complicated story between the three of them. Shunji Iwai adapted his own novel and wrote, directed, edited and co-scored the film, his first in Chinese, produced alongside Peter Chan. The Chinese, Hong Kong and Japanese co-production opened on 9 November 2018, and Iwai went on to make a Japanese version of the same novel in 2020.
