Last Mile

The eve of Black Friday. A cardboard box sent from the largest shopping site in the world explodes. Similar explosions follow one after another and the country is suddenly gripped by fear. Funado Erena, newly appointed head of a huge distribution centre serving three quarters of the Kanto region, has to get on top of it together with team manager Nashimoto. Directed by Ayuko Tsukahara, the film starts like a thriller but that is not its real subject. The telling shows the people behind e-commerce: the workers in the warehouse and on the road, targets broken down to the minute, the last mile nobody sees. The question of who is guilty and where responsibility ends reaches all the way to the company itself. Hikari Mitsushima plays Erena and Masaki Okada plays Nashimoto.
