What Last of the Wolves Is About
A detective in Hiroshima carries on the method he took over from his predecessor: rather than crushing the yakuza outright, hold them in balance and so keep gang war and civilian casualties away. An order of a kind has been established in the city. Then a man comes out of prison who recognises no balance at all, and the whole structure cracks at once. Kazuya Shiraishi's Japanese film is the sequel to The Blood of Wolves of 2018. Tori Matsuzaka takes the lead. The telling does not set the police and the gangs up as two separate worlds; both are inside the same violence. The level of violence is high and the film does not hide it. The tone is dark, and the streets of Hiroshima carry its atmosphere.
