Legend of Destruction

The film tells of the destruction of Jerusalem and the Second Temple. It opens with a revolt against the Roman occupation. The revolt turns into a fierce civil war before long. Religious zeal and the friction between classes come together. That combination drives the city into catastrophe. At the centre of the story is a young man called Ben Batiach. He is a devoted student at first. Then he joins an armed faction. His elderly relative Zakkai takes another road. The corruption around the Temple is part of the account too. The film is animated, but it was not made in the usual way. It was built from around fifteen hundred paintings set one after another. The image therefore looks like painting. What the account rests on is the Talmudic texts. Igal Naor and Amos Tamam provide voices in the ninety three minute film, an Israeli production Gidi Dar finished in 2021.
