What האושפיזין Is About
It is Sukkot in the ultra orthodox neighbourhoods of Jerusalem: for seven days people live in a makeshift hut in the yard, celebrating deprivation and hospitality at the same time. Moshe and Mali have been married nearly five years, have no children, and are down to nothing; both are waiting for a miracle. When two unexpected guests turn up at the door, the real test begins. A devout actor wrote the screenplay, and Moshe and Mali are played by Shuli Rand and Michal Bat-Sheva Rand, married in life as well. As a collaboration between religious and secular film crews it occupies its own place in Israeli cinema.
