What Let Us Live Is About

In New York the cab driver Brick Tennant is picked out as a killer by a confused eyewitness. He is sentenced to death for a murder he had nothing to do with. Nobody will listen to a prisoner saying he is innocent. His fiancée Mary knows for certain that he is, because she was with him when it happened. As the date of the execution comes closer, Mary sets about investigating the murder herself. The film is about how easily a miscarriage of justice is built and how hard it is to undo. That a death sentence cannot be taken back lies under the whole account. Henry Fonda and Maureen O’Sullivan appear in John Brahm’s sixty five minute American film, completed in 1939.
