Life on Seacrow Island

Melker, a widowed writer, comes to spend the summer with his four children on Saltkråkan, an island in the Stockholm archipelago. A family already lives there, and their small daughter Tjorven, along with her enormous Saint Bernard Båtsman, is more or less the island's real owner. The city children and the island children get used to each other, and for a summer the island belongs to them. This film was assembled from eight episodes of the television series shot in 1964. Astrid Lindgren wrote the series directly for television; it is her only story that was not adapted from her books but turned into a book afterwards. Filming took place on the islands of Norröra and Söderöra. The telling does not talk down to the children or make fools of the adults; it is one of the best-loved summer films in Swedish children's cinema.
