What Little Forest: Summer/Autumn Is About
The first half of a two-film work; the continuation, Winter and Spring, was shot the following year. Ichiko cannot make city life work and returns to Komori, the village she was born in. Through summer she fights the rain and the humidity, bakes her own bread, grows tomatoes, works the field. Through autumn she pickles, preserves fish and sweet potatoes, harvests rice, and remembers why she left five years ago. There is almost no plot; the film shows how food is made. From Daisuke Igarashi's manga. It was remade in Korea in 2018.
