What Little Forest: Winter/Spring Is About

Ichiko spends the winter in the village: a cake for the end of the year, mochi and curry for the cold, long evenings by the stove. Spring brings the rice planting, the cherry blossom and thoughts of the mother who left years ago without explaining anything. The film has no plot to speak of and never sells the countryside as paradise; it follows where food comes from and how much work it takes. Adapted from Daisuke Igarashi's manga, it is the second of a pair, so watch Summer and Autumn first. A Korean remake followed in 2018.
