What Little Sister Is About
Martijn visits his sister Daantje in Amsterdam after years without contact. She has only recently started living on her own. He arrives with a video camera and tells her he is going to make a documentary about her life. He never turns it off. Daantje is amused at first and then uncomfortable. The longer the camera runs, the more something left over from their childhood, never spoken about, works its way to the surface. Robert Jan Westdijk shot the whole film through that camera's eye, with Kim van Kooten as Daantje. It was made in the mid-nineties, before the found-footage method became common. What makes it uncomfortable is the method itself.
