Loco Fever

The film is set in a village on the Chilean coast. The village is called Puerto Gala. For years it had been forbidden to harvest a certain shellfish. The shellfish is called loco. One day the ban is lifted. When the news spreads people pour into the village. Fishermen come from every direction. Sex workers arrive behind them. Carlos Maldonato wants to take the largest profit from it. He tries to buy up the whole catch for a Japanese company. Meanwhile he is working to patch things up with his old flame Sonia. Sonia runs a restaurant in the village. Within a few days the order of the place is overturned. Tamara Acosta and Mariana Loyola take the leads in Andrés Wood’s Chilean, Mexican and Spanish coproduction of 2001.
