What Lord of the Dance Is About
The film brings Michael Flatley’s stage production Lord of the Dance to the screen, a show that tells the old story of good against evil out of Irish folklore through dance and music. Hard shoe and soft shoe steps, set dances, solos and group numbers follow one another, and the narrative needs no words at all. Marcus Viner’s ninety five minute British production recorded Flatley’s return to Dublin, filming the performance at the O2 Arena in three dimensions. The show itself was first staged at the Point Theatre in Dublin in 1996, and the film opens with a short address from Flatley before the performance begins.
