Lost Angels: Skid Row Is My Home

Skid Row is a district of Los Angeles. One of the largest homeless communities in the country lives there. The documentary follows eight people. Each of them has made a life for themselves in that place. One was once an Olympic athlete. Another is a musician. The film shows their days and how they get by. Poverty, addiction and mental health come into it. They are not the whole of the story. What the district holds together is shown as well. Gentrification nearby puts pressure on it. So does the criminalising of homelessness. Changes to mental health services are discussed too, and approaches that start from providing housing are given weight. Catherine Keener narrates. Kevin Cohen and Danny Harris appear in the seventy seven minute film, an American production Thomas Napper finished in 2012.
