Lucky Baskhar

At the end of the eighties Baskhar is a cashier in a Bombay bank: passed over for years, in debt, and belittled at work and at home. One day he notices how money actually moves through the bank and sets up a scheme that is small at first and then not small at all. Venky Atluri set it in the shadow of the securities scandals of the period and built the enrichment not as a triumph but as an account that gets harder to settle at every step. Dulquer Salmaan brings the part out slowly from a man who seems to be apologising constantly. The production design and period detail are its strongest asset. Shot in Telugu, released in five languages, it became one of Dulquer's biggest commercial successes. Who it is for: viewers who like financial thrillers and period atmosphere. Who it is not for: anyone waiting for a clear moral verdict.
