Lynyrd Skynyrd - Freebird, The Movie & Tribute Tour

Lynyrd Skynyrd were one of the southern rock bands of the seventies. The production is part documentary and part concert film. At its centre is a show they gave in England in 1976. The long number they played that night became the band’s signature. There is older footage and there are interviews as well. The first line up can be seen on stage. The band’s story was broken off in 1977. Three of its members died when their touring plane came down. The band broke up afterwards. Ten years later the surviving members came together again. The tour they made was meant as a tribute. When the response was large the tour went on longer. The film sets those two periods side by side. Ronnie Van Zant and Gary Rossington appear in the hundred and three minute film, an American production Jeff G. Waxman finished in 1996.
