Macbeth

Max Webster's 2025 recording captures a live staging in a small London theatre. Shakespeare's text is played without cutting; the cast is small and there is almost no set. What distinguishes the staging is its sound. The play reaches the audience through headphones, and the sound design delivers whispers, breath and the resonance of the space directly to the ear; this makes the inward passages of the text audible as a stream of thought. David Tennant and Cush Jumbo lead. The recording tries to carry that sound arrangement into cinema conditions and largely succeeds. The blood and violence remain symbolic on stage. Who it's for: those who like theatre recordings and Shakespeare. Who it's not for: viewers expecting a cinematic adaptation; this is a stage capture and stays bound to the text.
