Mad Enough to Kill

Julie Ballenger is discharged after five years in a psychiatric clinic. Mostri, a wealthy industrialist, hires her as governess to his nephew Thomas. The boy is the sole heir to the large fortune of parents who died in suspicious circumstances not long before. One day in a park the two of them are kidnapped at gunpoint. They manage to get away, but an armed man is after them. Yves Boisset's film is a thriller, though the real tension is not in the chase. Julie's history is a card in everybody's hand: nothing she says is believed, because her years in the clinic are there in her file. The film makes that its direct subject and pulls the viewer into the same doubt. Marlène Jobert plays Julie; Michael Lonsdale is in the cast as well.
