What The Cop Is About

Inspector Favenin works narcotics. He is tired, worn through and trusts nobody. Under pressure from America, the order comes down from above: round the dealers up at once. Favenin's informant is killed in the middle of it. He takes it personally and decides to settle the account himself, setting the law aside. Before long it is not only the dealers standing in front of him but his own colleagues, because the upper links of the chain are attached somewhere else. Yves Boisset directs the French film; ninety-five minutes, with Michel Bouquet as Favenin. It ran into the censors in France on release, and the way it showed police work caused an argument. Boisset spent his career in fights of that kind.
