Magic Mirror

Luciano has just come out of prison. His brother Flórido places him in service in the house of the wealthy Alfreda. Alfreda’s greatest wish is to see the Virgin Mary. Luciano is taken aback when she tells him so. She does not give the wish up; she says she will not rest until she has seen her and put some questions to her. Around the house moves a man called Filipe Quinta, known as the Forger, who claims he has a solution. Her husband, Bahia, listens to music in the meantime. The film is about a household where belief and wealth sit side by side. Leonor Silveira and Luís Miguel Cintra take the leads in Manoel de Oliveira’s Portuguese film of 2006.
